Sippy Cup Dilemma!

I hate false advertising! And I hate it even more on a tight budget! So here is my annoyance: SIPPY CUPS!!!!

Avent 7oz Magic Trainer Cup Twin Pack "colors may vary"Around 9-10 months I started giving Mekonen the Avent sippy cup. Prior to this age, he was unable to really figure out how to drink from a sippy. He really only sipped on it now and then and didn't care much for it. He eventually got the hang of the Avent one, but I think the flat spout was difficult. So, I was on a quest to find something else.

Playtex First Sipster Cup 7 oz. - 1 pk.Then I received these Playtex sippy cups. All over the packaging it said "leak-free" click top system. Don't buy them. They leak! I really liked the design of these because they are small and have handles. I think it would be difficult for Mekonen to hold onto a tall sippy cup without the handles at this point. But everytime they land on the floor and I pick them up a few minutes later, there is a milk puddle on our carpet. Very annoying, especially when our dog Macy likes to try and eat the carpet wherever milk is spilled (so weird, I know). Milk is constantly bubbling out of the air hole on the top. I have tried different ways of screwing the top on and off, tight/loose and nothing seems to work! UGH!

Nuby No Spill Cup, Colors May Vary, 2 Pack, 10 OunceWhen transitioning Mekonen to milk at 13 1/2 months, I started to introduce the sippy cup for two of his bottles during the day. So he has one bottle of milk in the morning, sippy cups of milk during the day, and a bottle of milk at bedtime. I have heard the Nuby sippy cups are great because they are soft spouted and therefore an easy transition out of a bottle and they don't leak. So I headed to Wal-Mart and checked out the Nuby sippy cups which stated all over the package how they "don't leak!!" Big lie. It was a mess! Milk everywhere when he drinks it and when it lands on the floor. UGH!

So, after some money spent and being very annoyed at all the milk spots I clean up all day long, does anyone have any good sippy cup recommendations? Ones that REALLY don't leak, don't have a straw, and are good for little hands?

I'm surprised you had trouble with the playtex ones..those are the ones I always recommend because they never leaked for us. As long as the plug was in properly i could throw them in a diaper bag and no without an issue..Hope someone else has some advice for you.

Sorry, Rachael, I can't be of much help to you. I had emailed you a little while ago and I was just wondering if you received my email? I have been having a few problems with my account lately. Thanks! I hope you find a sippy cup that works for you :)

Gerber!! They have a lot of different designs...some have two handles, some have none, some have soft spouts with a hard lid, and others have a hard spout, but they all use the same valve which stays in well, and is easy to clean.

you gotta go with the Safe Sippy. They are stainless steel with a plastic handle so no harmful chemicals or hormones for your baby. They are more expensive but they will last you forever...

Well, to be COMPLETELY 100% honest with you...(at least in my opinion) ALL sippy cups leave a puddle on the floor when left on thier side. I have yet to find a sippy cup that I love, but it is what it is. We used the Nubys when he was transitioning, and made sure they weren't laid on the floor. Now he uses a hard plastic spout, so the leaking isn't as bad as the soft spout, but if I find them on the floor, there is usually ALWAYS a puddle. Good luck on your quest.

Reese also likes the playtex ones....she has the one with the handles and then some of the taller ones with no handles....they don't leak too much for us...just a few drops and such...but I don't think you can find any that won't leak a little...if you do, let me know!

We too have tried many different types...one thing I've noticed is that if you don't overfill, they tend to not leak or at least leak less (overfilling creates pressure that pushes liquid out all openings)...assuming the little plug wasn't worn out (don't stick them on pegs in your dishwasher because it stretches the slits & makes them leak quicker). The nuby cups start leaking quickly because the babes tend to chew on them & create more/bigger holes, at least in our experience.
I've been wanting to try the stainless ones that another commenter mentions...but I've read mixed reviews on them leaking too. Frankly, I've just accepted that spills are a reality w/kids...hence the reasons that everything in our house except the bedrooms is laminate wood flooring.

You said no straw, but have you tried him with a straw? Weredesh went straight from a bottle to a straw. She never got the sippy cup thing, and from what I've heard straws are better for them anyways. I tried all kinds of sippy cups, and she never got the tilting thing. She loves her straw cups - the playtex no leak ones work well for us.

Okay, I just tried to email you again! I'm not sure why it didn't work the first time, but hopefully it will now :)

we used the same Nuby ones in transition, but as soon as Luke figured out how to squeeze the top with his hand to make the liquid come out... it was time to switch again. I am in love with Playtex, but NOT the ones with handles! I agree- those do leak. Try the ones with the locking top- "Li'l Grippers"- they snap into place when screwed on just right, and the valves stay in place very well. Luke can throw these full force onto the hardwood floor and they don't drip at all.

I say Gerber too. Eventually all brands (we have tried them ALL) will wear out after awhile, I only clean mine in the dishwasher, but the Gerber ones have been the best for both of my kids from small on up. My three year old likes the Playtex ones that look like travel coffee mugs.

The only thing that doesn't leak is milk directly from the cow. But then you might have other clean-up issues. This is just a lose-lose babe!! Love you for trying!
