Mekonen Discovers Our Christmas Tree!

We put up our Christmas tree right after returning from Thanksgiving in PA with my family. We went out on a week night in the freezing cold rain to Lowe's to get a real Christmas tree. (Let's just say this did not put Jon in the Christmas mood. Poor guy. What a good sport- he knows how much it means to me).

Lowe's is a "hard" sacrifice for me since our family always cuts down a tree at a Christmas tree farm. However, last year, we attempted to do that here in Indiana and the tree farms were awful and expensive. So we ended up at Lowe's. We are trying to be as tight as possible with our money this year so we have a much smaller tree than normal. I just LOOOVE big, huge, fat, trees!

I was very curious to see what Mekonen would do about the tree. We set up and decorated the tree after he was in bed. The next morning, he woke up, and after having his bottle made his typical routine rounds across the house. He went over to his toys and knocked down all the towers I set up every night after he goes to bed. Then he puts a few balls in the peek-a-block dinosaur toy, and heads over to the front window. He pulls him self up and bangs on the window, yelling and babbling. This will sometimes entertain him for up to 10 minutes at a time. It's so funny. So he did all of that without noticing the tree. I was sitting there with the camera, waiting to see what he would do when he saw it. After a few bangs on the window, he looked to the right and this is what happened.....

First.... he spots the tree, and slowly looked at the tree from the bottom all the way up to the top. Second... He starts out on a mission to find out what this thing is.
Third...almost there. The zebra created a roadblock.
Fourth...that little hand reaches out to see what on earth this big thing is.
Fifth...couldn't get a good enough look back there, so he goes around the zebra to try again. Haha. (And Macy at the front of the picture making sure he doesn't destroy the tree).
It was so cute to see him discover the Christmas tree. He has grabbed an ornament or two off the tree, but other than that he surprisingly, doesn't really bother it at all, which I'm so glad for! :)

Haha, those pictures were cracking me up! Too cute. Our 14-month-old daugher, Vienna, loves to shake the bottom branches of our tree, but it really hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be to keep her away from it, which I'm thankful for too :)

P.S. I love how you set up towers after Meckonen goes to bed for him to knock over the next morning. You're such a good Mom :)

How funny... what a cute set of pictures it's like watching it unfold in slow motion. What a sweet boy. And, yes you are definitely lucky he leaves it alone ;)
